Bachelor of Arts (B. A)

BA course full form is Bachelor of Arts - is a 3 year Bachelor’s Degree course or a 4 year Bachelor’s Degree course with Honor’s under the Savitribai Phule Pune University. The course is designed to give students a broad foundation in the humanities, social sciences, and other liberal arts. The degree opens up many careers and helps entry into specialized fields. It gives graduates critical thinking, communication, research, and writing skills with an emphasis on self-awareness and participation in the national development. Communication skill is instrumental in holistic development of the students. The courses offered under BA @ PCACS are

• B. A (English) - English literature, cultural studies and literary history are a part of the course. Students can do creative writing, composition, and critical thinking with careers in publishing, journalism, media, advertising, PR etc.
• B. A (Economics) – Course is designed to teach students how to collect, analyze, and interpret data using statistical and economic approaches. It provides knowledge on how societies use resources, make informed decisions, and create various policies to address economic challenges. The career options are in Finance / Banks / others as Market Analyst, Economist, Business or Economic Writer/ Journalist, Investment Administrator and Analyst etc.
• B.A (Political Science) – It involves the study of national and international democratic structures. It encompasses a very wide area, including the study of historical and contemporary political structures, public policy, government policies and procedures, foreign relations and public affairs. Students can enter Civil Service, become Public Opinion Analyst, Corporate Manager etc or take up Politics, Journalism etc after the course.
• B. A (Psychology) – It includes the study of human behaviour, human psychology, psychology of individual differences, social psychology, development psychology, and psychological disorders. The job prospects include working as a counseling psychologist or having a private practice to treat, provide guidance and advice to patients.

Medium of instruction

• The Medium of Instruction is English.
• To join a BA program, students must have finished their higher secondary education (Class 12) from a recognised board. They need a minimum percentage is above 45%

B.A. First Year (F.Y.) - ENGLISH

Language plays a vitally significant role both on personal and professional level. It is an effective carrier of human values and repository of knowledge. English has acquired the status of international language and has been working as a link language in India. It is the language of education, science, technology, market, commerce, trade, business, and research. Keeping in view the significance and all-pervasive use of English world over and in line with the objectives of National Education Policy (2020), the present English curriculum attempts to instill confidence, professional approach and human values in students.

B.A. First Year (F.Y.) – ECONOMICS

The objectives of a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) programme in Economics offered as per the National Education Policy [2020] to provide complete knowledge of Economics to the students, to develop theoretical base of the subject with the help of classical and advanced theories, to skill them to apply the knowledge in policy making in different sectors at the national and international level.

1. To develop a strong foundation of advanced economic theory aligned with the graduation and honours program.
2. To help the students to gain the comprehensive understanding of policy making at various government levels such as, local, state, national and international.
3. To develop an understanding about the role of the national and international governments/institutions for building consensus about the policies that help in welfare.
4. To create awareness among the students about interrelations between economy and society, and develop a critical thinking on socio-economic conditions of various strata of the society.
